For individual children or a group of co-writing kids.

I am David Somerville, Music Producer, Singer-Songwriter and Creator of the SongShop for Kids Program.

The reason I am bringing this service to the public is to fulfill a need that was created in doing the SongShop for Kids programs over the last two years.

We have been awarded a grant to present the SongShop for Kids program to the New Maryland Elementary School in 2016!

We are so excited to be able to continue this amazing project with a new school starting in January 2016.

Please feel free to experience the music of last years amazingly creative kids at Connaught Street School who took the experience of songwriting to heart.

When this project came to me from an email from Charlene McLeod an amazing music teacher from Connaught Street school with the idea of coming to the school to work with the kids from her classes. She had been exploring songwriting with the kids and wanted to go further with this idea.

All I could think of was when I was a 5th grader and saw this most amazing band "FreeFare" that came to our school singing and spreading an inspirational message to us kids. I was so moved and knew on that day I wanted to be a musician for life! Well I had that same feeling. If I could inspire just one kid to love music the way I had well...I knew I wanted this project to happen.

Two months later with the help of music teacher Charlene McLeod and the generous funding from the Artist-in-school program of the “Arts and Cultural Industries Branch” of the NB Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture as well as the Education and Early Childhood Development program and SongShop for Kids was born!

Once all the songs had been written and arranged it was time for the recording part of the project at 2Dogs Productions. I asked three talented Fredericton singer-songwriters Julie MacLean, Camilo Villamizar and Paula Tozer to join me as guest singers on the kids songs to give the project that professional feel. These amazing songs deserved it!

Now, the recording is finished and the songs are for sale. We even have a music video that is in production by the Digital Media crew at the NB College of Craft & Design for December release of the song "The Stars" sung by the amazing Julie MacLean. (www.juliemacleanmusic.com )
